Thy Kingdom Come

Thy Kingdom Come

Do I have it in me,
Rhythm and rhymes
And harmony?
Or like time,
Is it but passing through
To get to you?
I do confess
That I fear less
The emptiness
Than the pitter patter
Tear prospect
Of having to
Live without you.
What would my world
Revolve around?
With wound unbound
My reprobate heart
Would surely fall apart.
So the breath
You blew through me
Shall be given back
To thee my liege,
And piece restored
To the territory.

Commentary:

I wanted to achieve a particular effect with this piece. I have been saying for some time now that reading and writing poetry is my spiritual practice, and so I wanted this piece to talk about my relationship with inspiration and also to flow and feel like a prayer.
I hope I’ve achieved that in some ways...
